About Our Shelter

The Frontier Animal Society (SAFAS) is dedicated to providing a safe and loving environment for adoptable dogs and cats while they wait for their forever homes. Located in Ogden, Quebec—just minutes from the Vermont border—we are easily accessible, with Montreal 1.5 hours away, Sherbrooke 45 minutes away, and Burlington 2 hours away. At any given time, our shelter is home to 10-12 dogs and 25-30 cats.

As a registered charity, we rely entirely on donations and the generous support of volunteers to maintain our operations. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference. Donations of $20 or more are tax-deductible.

Caring for Our Dogs

We are committed to providing a happy, stress-free environment for all the dogs in our care. Our dogs enjoy daily walks and access to large outdoor runs with shelter from the elements. They are kenneled indoors only at night or during cold weather. Additionally, our spacious, fenced dog park allows them to play, interact with volunteers, and receive one-on-one attention. When possible, our dogs also have the opportunity to socialize with others.

All our dogs are sterilized, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations.

For more information about our adoptable dogs, please contact our Dog Adoption Coordinator, Brenda, at 819.876.7747.

Caring for Our Cats

Our cat facilities include a spacious room and smaller individual rooms where cats are free to roam. In warmer months, the large room opens to an outdoor “catio,” where cats enjoy lounging in the sunshine.

Volunteers are always welcome to spend time with our cats to ensure they are well-socialized and happy. They have cozy beds, scratching posts, and plenty of opportunities to climb. We also have two quarantine rooms for kittens and new arrivals. Whenever possible, kittens are transferred to foster homes.

All our cats are sterilized, vaccinated, and tested for feline leukemia and FIV.

To meet our adoptable cats, join us for our Cat Adoption Open House, held every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon. For other inquiries, visits by appointment can be arranged by calling our cat adoption coordinator, Linda at 819.868.2684.
